Love Letters or Phone Calls FROM Programs

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You know, I had doubts about posting my original post in the first place. I'm not sure this is the best subject to get on right now, and it may cause extreme anxiety for a lot of people (including me!!) who may not have gotten the same emails/calls. So I'm deleting my previous post and agreeing with CrazyPeds527 on this one!!

Think positive!! It'll all be over soon!! Yay!!

This could be a dangerous forum because we might end up talking about a program, and someone else goes "OH MY GOD, I DIDNT GET ONE FROM THERE!!!" and then spontaneously combusts. Just something to keep in mind....😀 whether or not you get love letters from a program really shouldn't impact how we make our list anyway...it should be about what we felt when we were there

Oh the plus side is, on a rotation that i'm on when we had a patient coming to seek disability for some stupid reason it made me realize just how much adults smell as patients....thank god for working with kids!

I would take anything anyone (including PD's) tells you with a grain of salt. Obviously, the programs want applicants to rank them high so they can have their optimal choice. Programs only look out for themselves; applicants look out for themselves. It's a huge GAME. Take a look through the ERAS/match forum and you can see many folks who've gotten burned by the "I was told by the PD that I was ranked to match, ranked high, etc..." I agree that you should make ur rank list by YOUR preference only. Unless you have some prematch agreement signed in front of your face (if applicable), don't trust whatever they tell u! you'll find out on match day like the rest of us! 🙂 Chill pill for everyone.... don't agonize over things- just enjoy 4th year!

Can I just say how much I HATE the game?!?!?!?

I decided to not play the game except to send thank you notes after interviews.
Now, I'm ultra stressed that it's going to bite me in the ***.
I got a voicemail from the PD of a program on my rank list over a week ago, but in my stubbornness to avoid the game, I haven't called back. Now I don't know if this will affect my standing on their rank list. I also didn't reply to any of the love letters/emails that I've gotten. Why is this so freaking stressful?

I wish there were a rule that all contact post-interview was prohibited.

Try not to stress it too much, I keep hearing how little impact any of our interest letters/calls have on our ranking. Just take any love from a program as a pat on your back

From my perspective (2 years of going through the Match, this year on both sides of the process), calls from programs and love letters mean absolutely squat. I was told from my top choice last year (who was well aware that they were my top choice) "See you next year." I guess they meant "see you on the interview trail" because I scrambled last year. Wheee.

This year, I was involved a very small bit in my current program's rank list. At the very least, it gave me some perspective. And all I can say is that if you have received letters or phone calls, don't blow them out of proportion. And if you haven't, don't stress.

And if you do scramble, it'll be alright. It'll suck, but it'll be alright.

So I totally agree with all the people saying not to believe programs. I got a "love letter" just the other day from a program telling me how much they loved me and that I was ranked VERY HIGHLY on their list. Would have been nice except umm....Yeah I canceled that interview! Never even went to the program so obviously a bogus letter and just goes to show that some places send out those letters to anyone and everyone!
