Hi all, first post here 🙂

I started off as a pre-med student in undergrad, but youthful rebellion got hold of me and I ended up slacking off and doing poorly in my science classes. I graduated with a cGPA of 3.40 (thank you psych classes), but my BCPM as an undergrad was only 2.89. I made it through Gen Chem, Bio I, and O-Chem I before switching paths. I graduated with a Psych major and have been working in a random office job for the last couple years.

I went back to school and completed my pre-reqs, retaking Bio and O-Chem, as well as taking Physics. Anyways, as it stands, my cGPA & BCPM for my post-bac work is 3.87.

Still, my total BCPM (undergrad and post-bac) is only 3.36.

MCAT stands at 32.

Volunteer & EC:
+1 semester research (psych related)
+2 semesters TA (chemistry)
+Habitat for Humanity (50+ hours)
+Red Cross Volunteer (150+ hours)
+Patient transporter at local hospital (50+ hours)

I'm still lacking on clinical research and volunteer work. I'm hoping to get that in early next year before I start applying (for 2011 admission).

I'm hoping to gain entrance to an MD program. What are my chances? Will my post-bac work be viewed upon with strong deference?

You sound almost exactly like me! I have more research experience, but otherwise our stats are almost identical, and we seem to have followed the same path through undergrad and post-bacc. Anyway, I applied very broadly to MD schools and to 5 DO schools. I've had 6 MD interviews with no acceptances and 2 DO interviews with 2 acceptances.

My advice would be, if possible, keep taking science classes. Everything you can do to keep bringing up your sGPA will help. If I could change anything about what I had done in this process, it would definitely be to take more classes (I didn't take any while I was studying for the MCAT).

I'd like to know the OP's cGPA including the 3.4 undergrad plus the bostbac.

And the state where you claim residency.

cGPA total is around a 3.51 with undergrad + post-bac.

I am in PA - undergrad and post-bac was done at Pitt, but I'm not sure I stand much of a chance of getting in to Pitt Med with my numbers 🙂.
