I'm in the process of prepping medical school applications and was having some serious doubts about the whole thing due to my low first and second year GPA. The combined GPA for my first and second years is 2.347 (super low I know...), but I picked it up in my upper years, with a 3.7 GPA for my third and fourth years combined.
I wrote the MCAT last summer and got a 508. I plan on writing it again next month and I'm hoping for a 512+. My EC's are also not amazing, I have about 200 hours of volunteering in a hospital but I haven't done any shadowing or been involved in clinical research of any sort.
I was just wondering what you guys think my chances are because I know that my low GPA will be a significant issue when it comes to admission.

What is your total GPA for all 4 years? Re-writing an acceptable MCAT score is dangerous...just ask poster who recently posted about re-writing a 508 and received a 507.

Total GPA was a 2.95. And it is risky but I'm pretty confident that I can do better though because I definitely didn't put forth my best when I last wrote it and I'm assuming given my GPA I'm probably going to need higher than a 508

Okay, your MCAT is not your problem...your GPA is. Even a high MCAT will not make up for that GPA.

Are you URM? Are you looking at DO schools? What state are you from?

I am URM and I haven't looked into DO schools yet but I'm starting to think that that may be a better option for me. And I'm a Canadian student applying to US schools, which makes it even worse I guess...
