I was wondering if we could start a thread for people like me who have a lower GPA and higher MCAT than the average applicant. Maybe list your stats and which schools have shown some love (ie. interviews, acceptances, waitlists...and so forth). I'm losing hope for this application cycle and I want to know if there are others who are faring better.😕

Thanks lola, makes it a lot easier!🙂

sure. i'm sure people have gotten more interviews and acceptances. just wanted you to see it if you hadn't already.

sigh . . . reading what i wrote in that old thread makes me sad. i was so optimistic back then!

but, as you can tell from my posting the "schools that are ignoring me" thread, this process hasn't been going as well as I had hoped.

still exactly the same as last week: 14.5 schools ignoring me, 5.5 schools invited me to interview, 2 acceptances. (the 0.5 is for the lovely school that told me on the phone a month ago that i'd be invited for an interview, but still hasn't sent the invitation 😡 ). I am, of course, incredibly grateful for the acceptances. 😀

but i am beginning to wonder if my status as a "low GPA / high MCAT" applicant is the reason so many schools are ignoring me? like maybe my GPA is too low for them to really want me, but my high MCAT prevents them from outright rejecting me? so they just keep cycling me through review after review, and no one on the adcomms has the guts to make a decision about me!

ahhhh . . . speculation on a rainy Friday afternoon . . . good for the soul.

How can this process not be going as well as you had hoped? You already have 2 acceptances! Some people don't get any acceptances in the process. Were you expecting every school to interview you or something?

i can totally understand your reaction. yes, i realize that not everyone is fortunate enough to get a med school spot their 1st time out, and as I mentioned in my last post, I am grateful to have 2 acceptances.

BUT, there are many reasons why a person can be disappointed. I'd venture to say that everyone on this forum who hasn't been invited to interview at their (realistic) top choice school is disappointed. I don't think that makes me an unreasonable person. It's all relative. Yes, I've been accepted to 2 schools. At one, I really didn't get the sense I'd be very happy. And the other, I honestly don't think I can afford. I would like to spend the next 4 years of my life at a place where I think I'll fit, that might give me some modicum of financial aid. That is as well as I hoped to do.

I'm not expecting to be interviewed everywhere. But I am frustrated that the majority of schools I've applied to won't give me any feedback whatsoever.

understandable...the process is frustrating to say the least. such is life.

well actually banannie you don't have to be so modest; considering you got a 40 on the mcat you have a right to wonder why you are being ignored by some of these schools. it's something that any school--casting aside your other credentials--should be impressed by. good luck.
