Hey everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has any good ideas for me. I am in my junior year of undergrad majoring in Psychology. My current overall gpa is 3.04 and my Psych gpa is 3.02. I understand these are less than desirable for most graduate programs but I am wondering if anyone knows of any accredited Masters programs in psychology in the ny/nj area that would accept my gpa. I also have some research experience in a lab under a professor. So I am wondering if that will help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

As for the gpa, a way to bring it up before applying is making sure you finish the rest of this semester strong and if you can, then take some summer classes before your senior year starts so that you can pick up your gpa even more. The research experience will help you! Getting into a PhD program w/ that gpa would be difficult, but if you're going for a Masters then it's more feasible to get in. A strong GRE score will also help so you have ways around the gpa, but you should try to bring your gpa up as much as possible, even if only a little, before applying to grad schools. Good Luck w/ everything!

I actually have the same problem. I had a low GPA and a pretty good GRE score. I applied to a lot of schools that I had a lower GPA by .1 to .2 or so, but my GRE was at least 100-200 points higher. Get your GPA up as much as possible like the previous poster said. It'll show you're a well rounded student, but make sure your psych GPA is higher. And keep doing as much research as possible, even if it's for a master's or Psy.D. program. Good luck!
