MD & DO Low GPA High MCAT URM/SES School List for 2017 Cycle (WA)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

Being a drum major is novel! Your MCAT score is nothing to sneeze at. Very interesting that U MO is trying to recruit you... that says to me that your chances are a lot better than the cGPA/sGPA would imply. I worry that a single quarter of excellent grades may not allay an Adcom's fears, but my spidy-sense is telling me that this app cycle will be better for you.

I suggest:

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS)
Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Health Sciences
UW (State School)
USUHS (are you aware of the service commitment???)
OHSU (maybe)
U AZ
U CO (maybe)
Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine
Morehouse School of Medicine (Atlanta) (I'd like to see more evidence of commitment to underserved minority communities...this may depend upon your off campus tutoring).
Meharry
UCLA/Drew
Howard
USC/Keck
SLU
MCW
BU
Tulane
Gtown
VCU
U VT
IF you speak Spanish, the four PR schools
NYMC
Albany
The Philly triplets

PacNW COM
Western-OR
Touro-CA
Western
TUNCOM
AZCOM
SOMA

The Drum major was in HS but how about the Drum Corps International? Usually high school stuff shouldn't be included unless you continued it in college.. Of the schools you have listed, are you a reapp at any of them?

I said above that I was section leader for a year with my corps in DCI. Never went out for drum major there because I felt I could contribute more to the ensemble from a performance position, not just a human metronome. Plus I got most outstanding musician with the corps that year. I did do band in college though (marching, ensembles, glee club, etc. Music minor)

UW, USUHS, and OHSU are reapps.

USUHS (are you aware of the service commitment???) Absolutely, I plan on using HPSP to pay for school anyway so USUHS is basically the same deal.

Does that change anything @Goro ?

@Goro

Also isn't BU a bit high for me?

Edit: My mistake, I was thinking of BCM

I mean that "break from school" was a good 2 years and I only needed to finish 1 more quarter so in the grid it looks a little out of character. I suppose that I could write my PS as a narrative to how I changed outside of school and when I came back I showed myself I was ready to work.

Meharry matriculated 4 Mexican Americans last year, Morehouse, only 2. If your language skills are strong, your chances at the 3 Puerto Rican schools that accept mainlanders is much better (not UPR). If your language skills are not strong, a significant rehab of the undergrad gpa would really help.
