I graduated from my university with a non-science degree that has a very very low GPA (2-2.15). During my time at the university, in addition to taking non-science courses I also took "pre-medical"courses (Biology, Physics, etc.) that I did not do well in, my highest grade being "C's" along with multiple retakes of some science courses. As my chances for both U.S. and International Alleopathic Schools is nil, I have to base all my hopes on retaking classes to get into a DO school due to their grade replacement policies. My question, as you can tell from the title, is how realistic my chances are that I can pull this off given that my highest GPA with grade replacements is approximately 3.3-3.6 (this is a conservative estimate). Also, if anyone knows, what is the policy for replacement grades in terms of number of retakes for DO Schools? Is there a limit to the number of times a class can be retaken or is only the highest grade looked at regardless of number of classes taken? I also heard about academic forgiveness in Texas, would anyone have any information on that? Your responses would be greatly appreciated.

you can retake a class like a thousand times and they always take the retake grade and don't count the original. You can either do enough retakes to get you around a 3.2-3.3, do well on the mcat and profit or do enough retakes to get you into a DO post bacc program, up to you.

The texas grade forgiveness policy ive heard about that but i totally forget how it works exactly. Im sure someone on here knows though

If you bring your GPA up to a 3.3+, you will definitely have a shot at DO schools provided your MCAT is also competitive.

I believe for the Texas academic forgiveness, you have to start over as a freshman at a Texas school and go through undergrad again? And it might only be for certain schools. I'm not from Texas/did not apply to Texas so don't quote me on that. Hopefully someone familiar with TMDSAS will see this.

You can retake as many times as you want, but keep in mind it's your last grade that's factored into the calculation, which could be detrimental if you get a lower grade on the retake.

I don't know your situation, but just remember that medical is much faster paced then Undergrad, and you wont have the option of repeating classes multiple times if thats what it takes for you to get through. You don't want to get in to a 40K a year program only to find out you can't cut it.
Just something to keep in mind.....
