Hello,

I have a 2.997 cGPA and 2.8 sGPA. I applied to several SMPs and did not get in anywhere but Mississippi College.....

What do you guys recommend I do this year? Take the MC SMP or do something at my state school? Or just focus on the MCAT (which I plan on studying for anyways)...

Please help! Thanks...

Carribean is your last shot, if you still even want to do this. Not saying this to be a dick, but your not competitive for DO or MD. But, I think you'd still have a solid shot with our friends down south.

I ended undergrad with a ~2.7 at a top private school. I knew that one year of doing fantastic in an SMP would probably still not be enough (even with a great MCAT). I signed up as a "second degree student" at the local campus of my state school, and took only BCPM classes, receiving a 3.9 over the year (also focused on and completed MCAT at the beginning). I am now in the SMP I desired to enter into, and well on my way to acceptance to MD school, in my opinion. The only downside is the amount of time I'm spending on this process. But we already dug ourselves the hole, right? Hope my story helps

Why would you not take the MC SMP? Most SMPs require a higher GPA and an MCAT score of 28-30. If you want to get into a better-known program, I'd suggest a year of postbac work to get your cGPA > 3.0 which includes upper-level science classes. Get all As, of course. Take a formal MCAT prep course. And reapply to SMPs after that.

Going to MC seems like a lot less work.

Alternatively, you could plan to attend a DO school, retake classes you did poorly in to take advantage of then grade-replacement policy of AACOMAS (DO application service), so long as the retake has equal or greater credit hours. This route is likely to be less expensive if you had isolated poor grade performance.
