Hi all, I just got my MCAT score back and I have 24O. This is my second time and I took it at the end of July and they don't have seats anymore for this year. I just want to know if I have a shot at DO schools. I have my application ready while waiting for the score and I am trying to decide if I should apply this cycle without a retake.

My stats are below.

Senior in Biology Major
Cumulative GPA 3.92
Science GPA 3.87
MCAT: first time 20 O (P-5, V-7, B-8)
second time 24 O (P-8, V-7, B-9)
Volunteer - 1 year in patient care total of 200+ hrs, 2+ years of physician shadowing (MD though) still continuing currently, and lots of extracurricular activities including leadership and other volunteer activities (soup kitchens, senior centers, plunges, etc)

Recommendation - Microbiology professor, General chemistry professor, Organic Chemistry professor, Physics professor, a committee letter and from the physician I shadowed.

Other- I also have work experiences at health office in school and non-profit organization during the the summer.

Thank you for the help, guys.

Nice GPA! 24 (retake) is not too bad for some DO programs. I think if you were to apply really early for this upcoming cycle and get a DO LOR you should have some luck at some schools..... as long as you apply very broadly. If you have the money, I don't think its a bad idea to even apply this cycle (DO schools) because some schools haven't even started interviewing yet and you may just get lucky. Just my thoughts/what I would do if I were in your position...

With those stats I would say you are pretty competitive. Not a shoe in by any means, but you are below the mcat and nicely above the gpa. Together, you should be ok.
