Took a DAT Bootcamp test for the first time today, this is my breakdown:

Bio: 24
GC: 24
Org: 21
PAT: 16 (!!)
Reading: 22
Math: 19

I've been studying PAT for the last 6 months straight with various resources (Kaplan, Princeton Review, Crack the DAT, and Bootcamp) but I can't seem to do very well on this section. How worried should I be? My actual DAT exam is coming up in about 3 weeks.

I noticed that in Kaplan, PR, and Crack the DAT, I can just match up the lines on the TFE section and get the correct answer like 90% of the time. I don't need to actually sit there and try to visualize anything, unlike in Bootcamp. I also notice that in Kaplan/PR/CDP I can almost always eliminate a few answer choices in TFE based on dimensions alone-i.e. the height of the front view will be obviously wrong in at least 1 or 2 answer choices (again, unlike Bootcamp). So, what is the real DAT like? Can I use line counting on at least some of the choices? Will I be able to eliminate at least some of the choices just by looking at dimensions? Don't even get me started on pattern folding, that's a lost cause in my opinion.

Head back to bootcamp and look over all their videos of how to do PAT. After watching their videos I greatly improved in most of the sections.

Don't get too caught up in angle ranking. After watching bootcamp strategy videos, you should be able to perform very well on hole punching, keyholes, cube counting, and TFE.

You should be feeling pretty confident outside of PAT at the moment!

The two sections in pat that tripped me up were tfe and keyholes. I give up on pattern folding. I can do 15/15 consistently on hole punching and cube counting. Any specific tips for tfe and keyholes?

I have been having the same problem with the Pat section! Did you find any strategies that worked for you?? Thanks

For me, TFE is all about focusing on the 3D models. Literally, when I was reading the BC explanations I kept getting the same score like 5/15 for 4 test, and I was concerned and remembered how I originally learned it on Achiever, about a yr ago. That day I changed my method and started skipping the word explanations and went straight to the 3D models. The next day, when I took a practice test, my TFE score went up to 10/15. Play with the 3D model and compare it to the answer and question and understand why there's a dash or solid line. Come back and let us know if this helps.

Also, you have to practice the PAT section consistently.

This is exactly how I figured out TFE. Use the 3D models!

If you're having hard time with the angle ranking, you should check out the free angle ranking generator in DAT Genius and utilize their 'Toggle Axis' button. It helped me vizuallize the 90 degrees angle and my scores went from ~6/15 to ~14/15 in the DAT BC practice exams. Hope this helps.

For my strategy in TFE and keyholes, I literally do exactly what they say in the BC videos. After that I just did lots of practice questions on the generators until I was getting 100% or nearly, then I moved on to practice tests.
