So I applied to medical school this cycle and had a couple of questions. If I were to get in, would my semester GPA give ground for rescinding my application? (I know this has been asked before, but I don't know if my semester GPA is too low). I received:

Molecular Biology- B+
Neurobiology- B
Ethics- C+
Organic Chemistry II- B-
Beginning Piano- W (Dropped it because I got sick on the first exam and we get a W after like 2 weeks)

Prior to this semester, I had applied with a 3.74 ( between community college and my university USC, I applied with 2 years at community and 1 year at USC (my GPA from USC was a 3.8 so I don't think adcoms will question whether I can excel at a university)

I really have no excuse for my grades aside from the fact that I was burnt out and had senioritus. I've taken classes every summer and winter since starting college, with 18+ units each semester for the first 2 years. Last summer was the only time I didn't take classes, but I studied for my MCAT and applied which took even more time!

If I have to reapply (only 1 ii) so far, will I have to explain my grades for the semester on questions that say "Do you have any academic drops you wish to talk about?" despite still having a 3.67 overall GPA (if I reapply)

THANKS! =]

As for the first part of your post, I would definitely call the school after you get in. Some of my acceptances came with specific conditions. Each school will handle things differently.

The C+ in ethics is particularly troubling. Med schools will see that you have poor ethics and will wonder how you will be able to take care of patients in an ethical, caring way.

Just kidding.....you should be fine! Those seem to be all upper level classes, don't stress too much!

You're fine in terms of rescindment. If you have to reapply, usually secondaries only ask you to talk about any grades that are C or lower, so you wouldn't have to talk about any of it. If you do have to describe why your GPA dipped that semester, come up with something better than senioritis or burnout, because med school will be worse.
