i just got my results for step one and they are not good.
i got a 193/78. It's discouraged me to such an extent that i don't think theres a point for me to even take the step 2 anymore. Plus, i'm an IMG and a foreign national. Am i just overreacting? do i have a chance of actually gettin a residency here? Just really discouraged as of now. Would really like it if someone would give me an honest and realistic opinion though. thanks!

where there is a will there is a way! obviously it is going to be a challenge for you.. maybe you should spend some time getting some more usce (us clinical experience) and getting outstanding LOR's, and networking your face off.

obviously i am no expert because i havent even taken step 1 yet. but i can say that you have come to far to stop now. it is worth a shot. you can do nothing about your step I score, so focus on what you CAN do now to improve your chances. take step II and take it well. best of luck

I agree with the above post. Try doing really well on Step 2. It may help with your program of choice.

+1. And make sure you kick ass in ALL your 3rd year rotations. Kiss as much ass as it takes to get letters of rec from the highest people in the field you want to go into at whatever hospital you'll be rotating in. I personally heard a residency director say once that he would take anyone
(regardless of step1 score) who was strongly recomended by this one guy in another state that he had happened to go to med school with who he respected a lot.

And oh, you might want to start working on getting that greencard ASAP. Its going to make life a lot easier both for residency and after residency.
