My undergrad gpa was
overall: 3.13
science: 3.2
MCAT: 33 (9v/11p/33b), second time: 34 (11v/12p/11b)

Grad GPA: 4.0

I've done 300+ hours of clinical volunteering, 100+h surgery shadow, 100h+ pallative care shadow, 3 simultaneous research projects (1 poster award, 1 manuscript, 1 published), all of which were clinically relevant (cryogenics, osteoarthritis, seizure prediction).

I applied two years ago without the EC's and masters and was slammed with rejections. I'm not a big fan of the DO path. I'm just hoping on my EC's and masters pulling me in. Anyone have an opinion? I should at least try before applying to the Caribbean and DO schools.

Can I ask why you would risk going to a Caribbean school? You know you'd be considered an international student and even with superb step 1 scores it would still be that difficult to get into a residency program other than IM. Atleast with DO programs DO's have their own residency matches strictly for DO students and even if you wanted to go through MD residency programs all you would have to do is take the USMLE. I know a girl(although I do not know her step 1 score) she is from America went to college in America and decided to go to a Caribbean medical school, she graduated and she's been waiting 4 years so far for a decent residency program but no interviews no nothing she's stuck working at a doctors office(not working with patients though) Think about that before you make drastic decisions. But I am not a medical student; I am only a well informed pre med so I only know what I have read I haven't been through all the residency applications.

Hmmm. That's a good point.I also have a friend who graduated from a Caribbean med schol and didn't seem to have a problem finding a residency.

DO school is really far down onemy list for applying. I'm not planning on going the DO route unroll all my MD options are exhausted. I know that everyone says its just about the same thing, but if I am going to be working my butt off for the next four years then some, I want it to be for that golden prize. It may be harder because younger me was lazy and dumb.

You can do better than Carib diploma mills. You're fine for any DO program, and should try your home state MD school (if any), plus there are some that like people who re-invent themselves, like Drexel, NYMC, SUNY-Upstate, Tufts, Tulane, plus the usual list of low-tiers.

Good luck!

Thanks. This is one of those times I wish I weren't a Cali resident. UCSD is my dream school. I will buy everyone a round if by some miracle I get in. No doubt I have done a complete 180 since my undergrad. I just hope I don't get screened out of every school before I get a chance to prove myself.
