I felt compelled to make this thread because of some numbers I was made aware of in a recruitment email earlier this morning. On the MSMP website, it states that 9/12 program alumni matriculated to US MD schools (2 to DO, 1 Caribbean) from the class of 2012, while 13/17 matriculated US MD (and another DO) from the class of 2013. I'm assuming that's with a gap year, but those are pretty good numbers that are comparable to or better than other established SMPs. I'm impressed. Details about the program are on their site: http://www.stritch.luc.edu/physio/education/ms

With how new and small the program is, the odds of there being any alumni on SDN seem slim. If anyone has any experience with the program though, please share the experience.

How does it compare to loyola MAMS?

The matriculation rates are good, but given the loyola:allopathic rates (especially for same-year with alternate MD acceptances) might be indicative of strong applicants rather than strength of the program. Also potentially odd is that the program went from 12->17 while going from 6->3 acceptances to the host institution, this could be a gap year factoring-in though. Strange that they give a list of accepted schools, but they list 7 osteopathic acceptances with only 3 matriculants. I suppose it's fair game if it's a list of schools they've been accepted to, but it would seem odd if they had a single particularly strong student that produced the majority of their acceptances.

It's hard to say, given that MAMS hasn't updated their admission rates since 2006. I remember reading that Stritch doesn't take many from the program, but I don't have any numbers to back that up.

I think it could be taken one of two ways. It's either a good thing, because 13/17 still went US MD while only 3 went to Stritch, or it's a bad thing because Stritch doesn't respect the program enough to take more from it. I'm leaning more towards the former, but I agree there's some other useful data that would be more telling (such as how many US MD matriculants were reapplicants, average GPAs/MCAT scores, etc).

I really think the program means for alumni to take a gap year to apply afterward, which still puts it behind BU for me personally. I also suspect that the MSMP would be good for Chicago-area applicants who want an alternative to RFU.
