Hello! I have been lucky enough to have been accepted to LSU and the CSU Vet Prep Program for this fall (additionally waitlisted at Oregon State and Western). I am from Southern California and have taken a few gaps years and application cycles to get here so I am beyond happy to have options and get to start moving forward again this fall! I know that LSU is a great program but a bit on the higher end of cost and I know that so is CSU but by doing the Vet Prep program I would be guaranteed in-state tuition for the entire DVM program (the Vet Prep program is roughly ~30,000 with a 10k scholarship). I am someone who wants to specialize after vet school and unsure if that should be considered in this decision but it's also been a few years since I've been a full-time student and taken a full course-load in person (it was literally before COVID) so I'm starting to get anxious about my abilities and think maybe I should do the Vet Prep...I'm not sure. I know that either location will be a culture shock but leaving California is also something I'm a bit hesitant with the current state of the world. Anyways, if anyone has any opinions or advice to help me make this decision I would absolutely love to hear anything you have to say. Thank you in advance!

Which option is going to ultimately cost you less? Consider that doing the vet prep program not only adds a year of tuition onto your schooling, but that's also 1 fewer year that you're going to be working as a DVM and making a DVM's salary. Given the student loans situation, IMO, cost should be the number 1 consideration of choosing any program.

You wouldn't have been admitted if they didn't believe you were capable now. Don't let imposter syndrome tell you otherwise.

vet prep provides hefty scholarships and stipends to help students. i can connect you with a few of my classmates who are currently in the vet prep program if you’re interested. ultimately though, if LSU is going to cost less, absolutely go there!

take into consideration that fort collins is a moderate/high (depending on what you’re used to) COL area. not sure about the COL in LA.
