I have heard that in some states having an Masters of Art or the education Masters in MHC will negatively effect the work you get and the odds of insurance/third party reimbursement.

I have heard time and again it is best to go for the M.S. programs.

I am looking to most likely practice in NY or California.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Being eligible for reimbursements is based on your licensure. Being eligible for licensure is based on the state requirements for type of program, credits taken, and hours completed. I'd suggest checking with the state licensing board about their requirements and go from there.

The other thing I'd suggest is what you are doing here.....ask if there is a preference in a particular area for a degree type. I know in medicine there are some places that prefer an NP (nurse practitioner) vs. PA (physician assistant), and others that go the other way.
