Hello everyone,

I'm new here and kind of in a "panic" state. I'm currently working towards a M.S. in Neuroscience. I've noticed that PhD programs are extremely competitive and difficult to gain admittance and therefore am having second thoughts about my future.

I'm in this "panic" state because I don't see a future or a career path with simply a M.S. in neuroscience (B.A. in Psychology), and i'm having doubts in my own ability to fulfill a PhD.

Could anyone provide insight into what potential options I have, because Google is just knocking me down the ladder more and more.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, dtek.

Don't panic; that never helps. I'm also working on an M.Sc. in neuroscience (and also have a B.A. in psych). I would strongly advise applying for PhDs, regardless of what you've heard about the competition, if you would like to do research. However, it should be quite easy to find jobs with just an M.S., usually of the "research assistant" persuasion. I have no idea where you are, but jobs like that in Boston typically pay upwards of 30K and technically only require a bachelor's degree. Mostly: don't panic.
