Avoid new schools and DO schools if you have the option. Your life will be easier in the short and long run. The deck is stacked against DO students. There are many, many successful DO graduates, but having additional 200 hours of OMM in the curriculum and having to take two sets of board exams just to have the opportunity to be viewed as equal to MD counterparts doesn't appear to be worth the cost. Birmingham is a very diverse area for whatever that is worth. No comments on the rest.

Some people want to learn OMM

I'll add Birmingham is great and what your mentor says "southern racism" will be found in trailer parks out in the middle of no where, and you can find it anywhere if you look hard enough. As far as the transgender bill in Akaransa its already been deemed unconstitutional, I think we will see these bills go to the supreme court and then overturned because you can not deny care to a patient. (but let's not get into that political conversations). I will say anecdotally from looking at Twitter during the scramble I saw a surprising amount of HBCU grads looking for spots, but this could be a lot of reasons. I think UVA or UAB are your strongest schools so far.

I'd say UAB. If you hate Alabama, you don't have to stay there for residency. If you care about transgender care then this is an opportunity to go there an be an advocate!
