Hey guys..i am originally from houston, TX..and was wondering if the Program Directors are receptive to DO's... specifically non TCOM graduates..I would like to head back home after med school for residency..or possibly during my 4th year rotations. Im interested in EM,Anesth, IM rite now (most likely going to change in years to come).. Im specifically interested in Houston..Dallas could be a possibility or Austin

Thx guys.

there seem to be a strong contingent of DO's in the ut system; particularly in the fields you are interested in. maybe open your options to galveston, san antonio, and temple in addition to those you named and you should be fine (assuming you perform well in school and step I).

thx Tx Med..i dont mind goin to galveston or San antonio...still in TX...just dont want to go to Lubbock/elpaso for obvious reasons

There are DOs at many Texas programs. I don't know about anesthesia or EM, but most allopathic IM programs in TX have at least one DO, and some have several. Check out Dallas Methodist, Austin, and Scott and White in particular.

Good luck.

when i was m1 we always had residents come down to the anatomy lab to show how what we were doing was relevent...yada-yada-yada. there was generally at least one DO in each group. (except for ortho and ent). i definitely wouldn't wanna be stuck in west texas either.

I'm doing my intership in Corpus Christi, Everyone here is DO and there are tons of DO's in every field as far as attendings. I don't know how much more you would want. Definitley more friendly to DO's than Nevada, NM. Apply and see what happens

thx everyone...any other experiences that'll get me excited about coming back down in 3.9 years =/
