Made a 72%, P=70 and H=94 or top 10%. It was largely due to one major test and since then I have really picked up the pace and have been doing well. My question is, how will this affect my class ranking and such? I'm not gunning for the top 10%, I'm just curious to know if it would even be possible after that first module, assuming I keep up the grades I am currently earning. Basically what I'm asking is, is AOA and ortho out of the question? I mean that in a rhetorical/where do i stand way, not actually interested in ortho at the moment
Edit: Also this is my first post, so thanks to everyone. SDN has been very helpful for me the past few years.
So-so performance in one test in one subject? This wasn't even the final exam in any subject, right?
I kind of doubt there will be a single student who will pass everything with flying colors (without getting a 70 in a single test throughout 4 years).
Well, not to rain on anyone's parade, but there are definitely a few of them at least.
But to the OP, this shouldn't set you back at all, assuming you can establish a pattern of higher performance.

I am not sure if the OP is talking about the final score in one module or about a 70 in one quiz. Yes, of course, there are people with excellent scores in each module (at the end of the module). Hard to imagine someone getting 95 in every single quiz though.
Even if there are several such people, I can't believe there would be so many of them to severely ruin one's class ranking, assuming all the other modules go reasonably well.
We tend not to have "quizzes" in medical school in the US (at least at my school). The blocks often consist of several (2-4) exams followed by a final exam which may or may not be cumulative.
I know several people just from my med school class who pretty much rocked every exam throughout M1/M2. And yes, I'll include myself in that mix rather than trying to play coy and just hint at it. My lowest grade on an exam in medical school was an 89. But I still ended up with a 93 or 94 for that unit.
All that douchy bragging aside, yes, the OP should be fine, and a single (or even a couple) poorer performances shouldn't harm him overall, as long as his overall pattern/trend is one of "better" performances.
