Hello all, here is my story:
My parents were gungho about making me study premed and having me become a doctor. It isn't unsual for kids to feel that they MUST become physicians. As a result my college record has been less than my potential thanks to C's and couple of F's as a result of premed courses. I am a psych major, and have gotten basically all A's with maybe one or two B's in my psych classes. I have a 3.0 cum avg.
I know in order to be a competitive psych grad applicant, one ought to have a cum gpa on the order of 3.5 or so. I also know that I am really much more capable in pursuing a graduate career than what I did in my undergrad, which was really confusion and pressure by family.
So I am thinking of applying for a Masters in General Psych and then applying to for a PhD after that. Does this seem like a good idea? I am chosing general psych verus other masters, because generalpsych can be completed sooner than other masters, and since I know that I want to get a Doctorate, I don't want to spend more time completing a masters.
Sorry if this was the wrong place to post this post. I am new here.
Thanks!

I am also choosing to go the same route because I have a BA in Criminal Justice with a Psych minor. Still the classes I took arent ALL of the required classes for a doctorate level clinical psychology program. The program I'll e applying to consists of 30 credits, terminal, non thesis. So I will be done by this time next year as I have some graduate level courses in psychology already.

I think it'll defiantely help because you'll be able to pull up your GPA, establish contacts with professors who may be able to give you recommendations for the doctorate level program and you'll also be able to get the required/recommended classes.

At first I thought it would be a setback but I too had to do some soul searching and see the pros to going this route!
