for you guys who've had experienced with any/both of these machines, which one do you think is better? i'm thinking about upgrading; right now i have a macbook and i LOVE IT. i use it mainly for med school, movies, porn, etc. but i was wondering if there is anything better than a mac, and the only true competition would be a thinkpad. any opinions? just looking for some opinions since this forum has useless non-anesthesia topics as one member suggested 😉

Depends on your personality... If you hate drivers/updates/configurations/ Easy to use out of the box/stability Mac is the way to go. Most people I meet love their macs.

If you love power, configurations, option settings, fully customizable and hardware upgradable... PC is the way to go. I had a PC since I was 10 and know everything inside and out with windows. I could never let go of my PC... that or my right click button 🙂~ Plus its easier to get pirated software and you never have to worry about "Mac compatible" (although this doesn't seem to be as big of an issue now).

You could probably pick up a used or refurb black 2.4 Ghz macbook for 1300 or less. I've got one and have been pretty pleased after switching from PC, though I miss the right click. And since you've got bootcamp or parallels, you've got the best of both worlds.

I am a Mac user all the way.. it's just easier.. and if you really want to run windows you can run it in boot camp or parallels... it's a no brainer to me...

as to what's available now?
New macbook, new macbook pro, and new macbook air all came out...

so either buy new or buy the previous model for cheaper... Best buy has previous models on close out... I saw MAcbook air for $1349

Good luck!

Uh, you guys do realize you can buy a mouse with a right button and use the right click, right?😀

You don't have as many options with the right click as you do with Windows, but with the options you do have combined with the intuitiveness of the keyboard shortcuts, I am much faster with my mac than I ever was with my PC.

Plus, according to the continued Apple advertising campaign, having a mac makes you teh epic cool.

The whole point of a laptop is to travel with it, and I hate carrying around extra crap (like a mouse). It infuriates me that I have to hit two buttons to right click when every other computer manufacturer gives you a dedicated right click button.

tap with 2 fingers on the touchpad, and voila, instant right click button

Yeah, I guess that is annoying, but I always use a mouse anytime I doing any kind of work that requires fine motor control in order to be quick...which is everything other than surfing the internets.

It's not enabled by default (at least at the time I bought mine) and seems like a stupid work around. Yeah, I could use control click too . . . why can't I just have a button?

Actually now you have 0 buttons.

I like the two-finger tap for right click and the two-finger drag to browse websites. Impossible to go back to a plain old touchpad after that.

I do think it is NOT enabled by default. Not sure why that is.

I converted from PC to Mac in early 2008.

The learning curve was steep for a while but now I can do things on a computer I never could with a PC.

Sounds like you already know that.

I love my MacBook Pro!

it takes all of 20 seconds to enable

i hate the red dot scroll in the middle of the keyboard on the stinkpads. mac since 2004, and never looked back!

The biggest difference between the Macbook and the Thinkpad isn't the hardware - it's the software that runs on it. The headaches, driver upgrades, spyware cleaners, antivirus programs, and so on that you completely avoid by going with a Mac simply can't be matched on a Thinkpad.

On strictly a hardware basis, the Thinkpad might have a slight edge since Apple's build quality isn't what it was a decade ago.

Don't get me started on the little green resize button that resizes the screen to how big it thinks it needs to be, or that you can only resize your window by adjusting the bottom right hand corner. Why not resize the window from any corner you want to grab? It just seems like silly adherance to tradition.

I don't mind the green resize button myself although it would be nice to have a maximize feature somewhere. (Maybe double-clicking the green button?)

I do agree resizing from the bottom right corner is foolish. Forget any corner, we should be able to resize from any part of the window border.

I am a pc dude, know it inside and out and all ways made fun of mac people.

got so sick of the crashing so bought a 24 inch imac...fin love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! beyond any expectation i have ever had I am so impressed. LOVE IT

by the way in settings you can enable a rt mouse button with the imac or new macbooks

to clear up any misconceptions

ITS LONG BUT CAPTIVATING

buy a mac its awesome (coming from a pc guy who will never buy a pc again)

Made the switch from mac a while ago.

Things to also consider when looking at these two machines
1) The frame of the IBM is MUCH stouter than the macbook (I dropped my thinkpad at IBM about 4 times, never did a thing to it)
2) The mac is noticeably lighter
3) Unless you are getting a T-60, the mac will outperform spec wise, the T-60 is about on par with the MBP
4) The aluminum macs can dent easily...
5) The MBP screens are nicer (except for the T-60p, or whatever the upgraded T-60 is)
6) Windows isn't bad if you can get XP (I still prefer XP to Tiger, but thats because I'm an engineer)

To put it in another perspective, me and some of the other coops at IBM were buying Macs even with our IBM discounts because we could get a better overall deal (refurbed prices). And don't be scared of refurbs, they are statistically less probable
to have problems than new machines

When I can get Macs for the $450 I find good deals on powerful PC laptops I will switch. The better question is which do you like better, 2.5 PCs or 1 Mac?
