more discussion post fight.

Shogun was robbed last fight. I think he will take the belt tonight.

Whoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was screaming and jumping around. That was nuts.

The king finally has his crown.

God, I hope Anderson moves up so Shogun can put him in his place.

Omg I can't even begin to explain how exciting this is for me! I was so excitwd for this fight and honestly would havebeen happy to see either fighter win this fight

He's not anymore. Dana said at the post-fight conference that he's gone.

Same goes for Paul Daley for his post-bell sucker punch. What an idiot. Why would you jeopardize your career like that?

Muay Thai won last night over Karate.

You know what would be a great match up after this, if they can match the lbs.

SHOGUN vs. THE SPIDER SILVA

Indeed that is the dream fight. After the event, they asked Shogun if he would fight Anderson on ESPN2's "MMA Live," and he said "Of course. I'm a professional." :xf:

Wow. I'm not sure about that one. Although I'm pleasantly surprised by Shogun's performance, Silva is in a different league. Shogun is a small light heavyweight, so the size advantage wouldn't really be there, either.

Using MMAth and the transitive property, Silva owned Forrest who owned Shogun....but we know that doesn't really matter.

Great fight.👍

I have to admit that I didn't see that coming.....I'm writing it off as a "puncher's chance" but I'm not sure if it's indicative of a much-improved Shogun or not.

One thing about MMA is that matchups are difficult to predict....a guy who's not even considered "top 10" can show up one night and knock out the top guy (e.g. Serra vs. GSP, Forrest vs. Shogun, Chonan vs. the Spider). This is why MMAth doesn't work, and why people like Fedor are so unique.

Of course, eventually Fedor will lose....maybe to a "nobody"....I mean, the only fighters who ever put Fedor in trouble are absolutely horrible (Fujita and Mark Hunt).

Ok, I had to post this here. Classy move, Shogun stopping before the ref even steps in.

Of course, it's MMA, anything can happen, but I don't really consider Silva in a different league. Shogun's history is nearly just as impressive, and a match up between two of the P4P best in the world would be great regardless.

Shogun's fight against Forrest barely even counts. He was coming off back to back knee surgeries. Shogun would destroy Forrest if they were to ever rematch.

I can't see your pics for some reason.

As for Shogun, if you take away soccer kicks and stomps, some of his pride fights may have gone a different way. I like him as a fighter, but I just don't have him on my top 10 p4p list. I just see him as being very beatable.

i think evans definitely is much quicker but i think rampage is gonna catch him one time and KO him

Rampage is very similar to Vitor Belfort in that there's no way of predicting how well he will fight due to psychologic issues, etc. Similar to Belfort, he's an elite fighter when his head is in the game.

I'm not sure which Rampage is showing up tonight. I have always hated Rashad up until I saw him as a coach on the show, and now I only mildly dislike him.....I still think he'll probably beat Rampage, though. Of course, I'm rooting for Rampage, but just like before every Mir fight, I've emotionally prepared myself for a bad performance.

Here are my picks...keeping in mind that I am lucky to predict 50% correctly.

Jensen over Forbes via GnP (Jensen's from my hometown and is under-rated, and Forbes is inconsistent)

Riley over Brammer, but who cares

Cane over Diabate, although Cyrille has awesome striking skills.

Guillard over Lowe, who cares

Escudero over Dan Lauzon (Dan was recently booted from his training camp for poor dedication or something)

Kim over Sodallah (Kim is huge in Japan, and Amir is very beatable, but Amir definitely needs to become a commentator for WEC or something)

Diego over Hathaway

Lil Nog over Brilz, although this could be close

Duffee over anyone in the heavyweight division not named Shane or Brock.

Bisping over Miller, very close fight and might be fun to watch

Evans over Jackson via decision

Well, 8 out of 11 isn't bad. It's too bad the Rampage fight played out like we all feared that it might.

I'm in rural Kansas on a moonlighting gig, so I'm stuck reading the online play by play....but it sounds like I didn't miss much. I was wrong about Duffee.....

I had a feeling Rashad would win but think Rampage vs Shogun would have been a more exciting fight. Oh well, this will be a good test for Shogun and I think he will pull it out and solidify himself as the best light heavyweight in the world.

I thought Brilz should have edged out the decision, but it was a close fight. The Duffee fight was a shocker. Russow was getting outclassed the entire fight, then bam, it was over. Reminded me of Scott Smith.

Evans versus Shogun title fight...I'm looking forward to that one.

Lesnar versus Carwin title fight...hopefully, this will finally happen on July 3...I'll definitely be buying this one...

Agreed. Unfortunately the UFC rarely puts 2 exciting fights on a single card anymore unless it's New Year's eve. We're then forced to pay $45 for every fight that we're excited about.

e.g. UFC 115, which I will dub "The battle of the irrelevant ex-champs," Where we'll see Liddell take on Franklin for no apparent reason, then watch Crocrop lose again to a second-tier fighter (Barry). The best fight on the card will be Tyson Griffin vs. Evan Dunham, and it probably won't be televised......

How about Rampage vs Machida? There is no reason for that fight not to happen. :xf:

That fight is not too appealing to me. Rampage would almost certainly lose. If the A-Team does well, and Dana decides to keep Rampage around, he will likely give him a "top 10" light heavyweight tune up match that is really more like "top 30," rather than feeding him to Machida and possibly ending his role as a true competitor for the title.

More intriguing matchups: Rematch with Forrest Griffin, Rampage vs. Thiago Silva (most likely matchup), Rampage vs. winner of Jon Jones/Matyuschenko (which there's a 99% chance that it'll be Jones).

Knowing Dana White, he'll probably have Rampage fight Wanderlei or Chuck again, even though none of us want to see it. I don't know what his obsession is with these re-rematches.

I'd be most interested to see the UFC land some outside talent like King Mo or Gegard Mousasi, althoiugh Mousasi is unlikely to happen since he's part of the whole M-1/Fedor team that ruined their relationship with the UFC by trying to get co-promotion deals.

Of course, Rampage would probably lose to both of those guys.

I agree he's the underdog, but that would be a stand up battle. How can that not be appealing to you?

Rampage just signed a six fight contract, the Evans fight being the first. They are at similar places in their careers (post-loss limbo). I think the fight makes sense.

They are top competition for sure. Too bad Strikeforce lacks the roster to truly test them.

I'd like to see them fight, but only after I am more confident that Rampage's head is in the game. He'll always have a puncher's chance, but I would like to see rampage that beat Hendo and Lindland show up for the fight.

They are not in similar places in their career. Rampage has been fighting professionally for 11 years, at a top level for 9 years. He has a lot of mileage, having been through several wars and having suffered brutal knockouts. He arguably was in his prime 5 years ago. He also has significant psychological issues, and has frequently admitted that he doesn't love fighting anymore.

Machida has significantly less mileage, and has only been hurt once in his career. He is currently in his prime, is the #1 or 2 light heavyweight in the world, and just suffered his first loss ever. I would say he has his own version of psychologic issues since he drinks his own pee, but these issues are less damaging to his fight career.

As for contracts, I've always been surprised how easy it is for people to be dropped or forgotten despite their contracts if they underperform.

I have been a huge Rampage fan for years, but I can tell that his days as a legit contender are numbered, and he is unlikely to have a true career resurgence fighting at Wolfslair and doing movies. However, if he changes camps and re-dedicates himself to the sport, he still has what it takes to be a very dangerous opponent.
