Anyone have any experience with this text? I figure now is the best time to hone my physical exam skills since I am on IM and this book came highly recommended from one of my attendings.

Never heard of it. For the novice, I've always heard Bates. For someone with practice (intermediate to advanced) jump to Sapira's Art and Science.

For going through the motions, I was a fan of this site http://opeta.medinfo.ufl.edu/

Intended to be for UF students, but they are very well produced videos for the Novice. Some of the explanations aren't 100% correct, but they show you how to do a pretty decent physical exam. Monkey See, then Monkey do.

Most importantly, get your residents to show you how to do it right, and hopefully correlate with Ultrasound or Radiographic findings!

Most med students in the UK use this book at some point. I would say it is much better than bates but not as good as the oxford handbook of clinical examination. In my 3rd and 4th years I would use a mixture of books but never really bates because it missed so much stuff. There is another really good set of books I used for finals, essential osce something, pale yellow cover.

I've been told by my intern, residents, and some attendings this book is good. I had an attending yesterday tell me to buy a book pre-Civil War, though, since there was no technology back then 😉.

Great, thanks guys! I think I will go ahead and get this one since Bates is soooooo long.
