I just saw a commercial stating that Mac's now run Windows XP and that they'll run essentially all the Windows based software now. Maybe I'm behind in the times...but I was really surprised by this. Is this as seamless as the commercial suggests?

all the software that lets you do this is currently in beta. i'm a little surprised apple is advertising it while that's still the case.

apple's own solution is called "bootcamp" - it lets you install Windows on a seperate partition on the hard drive. you reboot your new intel mac, and choose whether you want to reboot into windows or Mac OSX. I don't have an intel mac, but from what I've heard it works fine. The advantage of this method is that you can run windows natively at full speed (ie can play games).

Some third party software "parallels" allows you to run windows in a window - no really. It's a bit slower than native, but you dont have to re boot.

Wow that's interesting. I'll bet it really boosts their sales. Although one of the neat things about Macs is the Mac OS interface. But I guess you could just run XP whenever you wanted to play a game.

and stability, and lack of viruses and spy/ad ware!
i think you're right it will lift sales, i've got a PC for when I have to use a windows app and for the odd game, not that I get much time anymore - but i'd love to retire the PC and get a dual booting Mac
