Thoughts? Any recent grads/residents?
Thoughts? Any recent grads/residents?
If your into cardiac and OB then Mamio is definitely the place to be. Downstate has alot of cardiac anesthesiologist, but the cardiothoracic service isn't very busy. The cardiac months can be done at maimo, Beth isreal, and new york hospital queens. I don't think Maimo gets alot of trauma, and the patient population is very different from Flatbush or Brooklyn heights. Downstate the work hours are lighter, academic wise lecture everyday, journal club, simulation/board review every week, grand rounds and ITE review on Fridays. The program is pretty academic in that sense. Test scores are very important here, not sure how it as maimo. It's a large group of residents vs small group at maimo, u rotate at different hospitals vs staying one hospital. I think the program is trying to work on making residents happier, their implementing some overtime pay thing, it's hard to keep 80 ppl happy.
I'm sure you'll leave either program as a good anesthesiologist
