I have gotten recommendations to only use UWorld during dedicated study time or to use it all year.

Because the main purpose seems to be to learn more material, and even learn how to answer questions that have that particular style, it seems as though there would only be benefit to starting early.

that's why there are multiple qbanks... if you're dead set on using one throughout the year (which I recommend, worked well for me) use USMLERx to help learn/reinforce first aid and get used to questions, and those 3000 questions should last you until step 1 study time where you can hit UWorld.

Get a cheaper qbank like Kaplan or Rx for M2. Save World for the big leagues (your dedicated Step 1 study time).

This is what I was going to do, but if its as important as people say it is, it seems as though the more repetitions the better. Why not start earlier to ensure I know all of that material well

A month before step 1? 2000 questions in one month while trying to do content review sounds very difficult

sorry if i seem hard headed 🙁

its just that everyone from my school i have spoken too has told me to buy uworld as soon as possible.

and with how important everyone here says it is, i can't see why i wouldn't buy it for a whole year. i can use NBMEs for self assessment. I can do uworld over and over to learn how to do the questions and learn the important material as early as possible

what else are you going to do for that month? it's less than 70 questions a day.

you should have been studying First Aid, Goljan, etc for the 2-3 months leading up to it, then hammering down more info via UWorld in that last month.

my school only gives like 6 weeks for dedicated board time. are you saying i should start hammering out all other materials while classes are still going on?

That's the way most people at my school did it, but they also gave us Kaplan QBank for free. Most of us spent then second semester of second year hitting First Aid and Kaplan hard, in addition to/supplementing regular second year studying. 6 weeks should be plenty of time to hit the books and UWorld if you've been phasing in Step studying in the months leading up to it.

I probably read First Aid once between January and March, then again in April, then studied hard in May to early June with UWorld. Ended up doing fine on Step and in my classes

That's what a lot of people do.... That's why you study for 12-14 hours/day for 5-6 weeks. Spend 6-8 hours/day reviewing contents and spend the rest doing questions. You'll get through all 2000 questions.

It was super helpful for shelf exams!

Yeah, I remember that. It sucked.

Repetition is key. I would get uworld around jan/feb and finish all 2000 questions before your dedicated month and then use that month for review and do second pass of uworld again. I treat uworld as a learning resources like FA and goljan. You wouldnt start reading FA for the first time during your dedicated study time right? Same with uworld. Do uworld early and repeat

Focus on learning the material well the first time during the school year. 4-6 weeks is plenty of time to review if you put in good effort during the preceding year. If you try to answer Uworld questions without the fund of knowledge you need, you'll just end up guessing, getting it wrong, and memorizing the answer - memorizing the answer is not the point of using questions to study.

How many Uworld questions generally are there per subject i.e. Psych, pharm, immuno/micro etc

It really depends on the subjects. I think there were 600+ for pathophys, ~200 for physio, ~250 for micro, ~250 for pharm, etc. Something like that.

are you saying the questions are pretty integrated in terms of topics?
