Majoring in Intergrated Science?

Hello guys! I am studying in UBC (a univeristy in Vancouver, BC Canada) right now. Our school offers a unique science degree where we can pick any 3 yr and up science courses and create our own science major. I am interested to enroll in this program after 2nd yr. I know generally dental adcoms don't discriminate the applicant's major. But I am kinda afraid that the major "Intergrated Science" may not be recognize by many Dental schools esp. in the US. Should I be worried about this? Or the adcoms don't really care what kind of undergrad major (even the ones that they never heard before) as high I have great cucumlative GPA?

I don't think the adcoms really care about your major as long as you complete the major that you indicate when you apply. All they care about is that you complete the necessary prerequisites before matriculating into their dental school. Most schools have the same prerequisites; however you should check the school's prerequisites where you plan on applying.

Don't worry about what adcoms think of your major. Just make sure you like and enjoy your major so that you can have a good GPA in the end.

Also, adcoms like diversity so if you can show them something diverse, in this case an unusual major, then that may be considered a plus

I agree with dentist to be. I am confident that adcoms do not care what your major is. In fact, my school offers a similar degree. It used to be called Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences and is now called Biomedical Sciences. Majority of the pre-dent and pre-med students in my school (including me) are pursuing this degree because of its flexibility. Many of my friends successfully got into programs of their choice with this degree in the past. I think it prepares students wonderfully for the DAT and d school.

at Notre Dame we had the same integrated science major. they called it "preprofessional" studies. basically you take all the med school and dental school requirements like calculus, chem, ochem, physics etc. and then choose your upper level courses like human physiology, biostats, biochem, etc.

I think it is a fantastic major because you have so much freedom to take all the classes you think might better prepare you for professional school. i don't think schools looked down at the major. in my class 100% got accepted to dental school and 83% got into med school.

i wouldn't worry about integrated science major hurting your chances.
