Is anyone on here majoring in/majored in medical technology? I'm considering it, as it seems interesting and something I would like to do if I were to choose not to apply to/attend medical school. It also seems to have good opportunities for getting involved in research. However, there is somewhat of a problem for me. I'm just finishing up my first year in college. This major will take up my entire course load for 3rd and 4th year, including the summer between. This means I have to finish my pre-req's and general requirements by the end of next year. This isn't too much of a problem, but I don't think I'll be able to fit in O-chem lab and the 2 quarters of gen chem I skipped from AP credits (same for calculus, though I'm not sure I'd need to retake that?). Any thoughts/advice?

AP creds vary from med school to med school, might want to retake them just to be sure. See what others say.

If you think this is something that you would enjoy, go for it. It is better to major in something that you are passionate about. This field would also be good experience for medicine and the pre-req's for this type of program are just about the same for someone wanting to go to med school.

As far as AP credits are concerned, you might want to check with a pre-med advisor. There may be an issue with having to take the laboratory portions of the Chem courses that you placed out of.

Should you decide against medicine, the job market is good for medical technologists. After working in the field for awhile, you could obtain a supervisor position (lab manager).

Medical technology is one of my majors.....

Is majoring in medical technology similar to majoring in nuclear medicine and/or radiation therapy?

I ask because the students majoring in this at my school seem to take some pretty cool science/health classes.
