I'm not sure if I'm posting on the right thread but I was just wondering what most of the people here majored in before going to dental school. Also any other comments about the major would be cool (i.e. difficulty, workload, boringness..). I'm just asking because I'm a little curious. Thanks 🙂

You can major in anything (there is a piano theory major in my class!). But the easiest major is going to be biology, chemistry, or biochem, because you will need a long list of prerequisites under your built to be considered by the school.

Here is the list of prerequisites for Indiana University School of Dentistry. Most schools will be similar but they all have their little nuances: http://www.iusd.iupui.edu/prospective-students/admissions/dds-prerequisites/

Biology has a large workload but that is a good thing because it will help you prepare for the onslaught that is dental school (next semester as a D2, we have 30.75 credit hours... not. joking.) You will have to take some Chem classes as well. For me, I was like 4 or 5 chem classes away from a double major, so I bit the bullet and did the double.

Just remember the purpose of college is to get an education and to get you into dental school - NOT to spend all your time bird dogging and beaver banging, partying, and getting crunk. Those things are acceptable, as long as you do them in moderation and they don't consume you and define the sole purpose of your existence.

Good luck!
