I've noticed the numbers of female that got accepted to pharmacy schools is almost 3 times as much as males. Does this mean it's harder for male students to get accepted?

Are you sure it isn't also that the same ratio of women to men exists in the applicant pool? I remember walking into the waiting area for "interviewees" (...or victims 😉 ) at one of last year's interview days at my school, and did notice a handfull of guys, in a roomfull of women. I sat in on the interview panel and interviewed 5 women, and 1 man. I don't think there is a bias in favor of female applicants to pharmacy school. I think the ratio of women to men in the applicant pool "carries over" into the ratio of those accepted. The profession is supposed to be a great career choice for women who might want to start and raise a family. There are few professions out there where you can make very good money working per diem...pharmacy is one such profession.

...no, I don't think an individual's gender makes it any harder or easier to get into pharmacy school.

i dunno.. i saw at my interview a 3 to 1 ratio but my school is pretty even 60:40

Apparently this year's first year pharmacy class in Toronto, Canada is 95% female!!!!!

Those lucky guys!

damn these bad ratios

STATISTICALLY...this is one of the reason for the 'SHORTAGE' now....most OR some ended up having kids and/or stay home mom w/working hub

pharmacy is lightweight...clean...doens't take a man to push pills. better suited for women. men do surgery....do intricate thigns with their hands.

i cant believe u actually think that way. perhaps u shouldnt go into pharmacy (and go do some 'truly meaningful work as a surgeon') if u think it's all about "pushing pills".

Men don't do intricate things with hands. Men work with jackhammers.

ROFLMAO..... There are just so many ways this can be interpreted.
Thanks for lightening my morning.👍

What? Have you got some sort of empirical evidence to back this claim, or do you think that by using the word "statistically" it sounds legit? Because you know, there would be a comparable shortage in a whole lot of other areas, if what you say was true.

There are numerous reasons for the shortage of pharmacists, not the least of which is a rapidly aging population. Add to that the number of new drugs that are coming out every year, new treatments for existing conditions, the ability to work part-time hours and make full-time money..... all kinds of other factors that feed into a shortage.

Your claim may account for a small portion of the shortage, but not enough to make a broad-sweeping statement like you did, without some sort of evidentiary proof.

Cut the attitude out mofo.

The ratio is very favorable for men 😀 Two girls for every boy. If you are a guy and can't get a date you might have problems. I am married, but at least I will have some women to feast my eyes on.

I hope you are kidding because if you are not you need to look into some other career you obviously don't know all the things that a pharmacist does other then "pushing pills". Also, take that atitude into an interview room and see how many acceptances you get and you spelt things wrong meaning you are a man who can't type well with his hands or a women who needs more self-esteem.

I think you watched a little too much grey's anatomy buddy.😉

i knew I was gonna get flamed for this! People I have a licence in pharm tech and a PTCB and subscribe to tons of pharmacy publications so I think I know pharmacy is more than just "pushing pills"

you guys get offended too easily.

I can spell because I just corrected yours.

Theres a shortage in pharmacists?

I read in another thread that theres a surplus of pharmacists, but they were referring to CA. It should be similar in other states also though.

I didn’t say you couldn’t spell. Its obvious type you knew how to type things. I didn't say you didn’t know how to spell things. I said you couldn’t type well, being that you said men can do intricate things with their hands since it looked like you miss typed it.

well what you said was that I spelt wrong and that I couldn't type. what I said was that there are more women in pharmacy becasue men often go for more complex things like surgery. I don't see a correlation with what you are implying. and I am not a man, I am a woman with long fingernails.

and if I were a man going into pharmacy I would not degrade my own manlihood by saying such things.

and as a man yourself you shouldnt take things like this to the as.

Cystapharm
you are really looking into what I said... I never said you were a man or a woman ... I merely said what I though about what you had said. It seemed a little offensive to both men and women. I also don't think I am the only one who thought so. Oh, and I am a woman not a man

well i didn't intend to offend anyone. I didn't think men should feel offended but if they did thats a shame.
how else do you explain the large skew?
