Which are the most notoriously malignant NS programs in the nation? and by malignant, I mean attendings just abuse you until you cry, take out all their frustration and anger out on you, or unnecessarily hard on you just because they can .... or are they all like that? Maybe I am not qualifying malignant well, but that's just what comes to mind for me.

On the flipside, which are the nicer ones? Also I define a nice program with having great residents who work with you and help each other out, like a true team. I don't want to be spending the end of my day pulling the knives out of my back.

I think the nicest program will be those big name program...whether nice or not...we have to admit, people are just fighting to get into it. Assume that Johns Hopkins program is the most malignant in the country, but because it is Johns Hopkins...a lot of people will still fight hard to get in and wouldn't mind to suffer for a few years.

Let's assume that some no-name program is the nicest program in the country, but because it is not so prestigious...so...people may not fight that hard...but again..NS is so competitive to a point where every program is precious....

I know of 2 people who left Iowa in the past 5 years.

Cincinnati (Mayfield Clinic) and U Michigan are extremely good, top 10 programs that are NOT malignant.

johns hopkins very nice. BWH very nice but new chair coming in so who knows by the time its you.

2 residents got into a fist fight at hopkins and one broke his wrist and the other is on probabition, hopkins was known as the "gentleman's program"....no more

And all the women keep bailing at OHSU, I know it isn't the programs fault it is the womens' fault

BWH went through a period where all the residents were fired, new chair maybe it won't happen again.

Wow! A fist fight? That would have been interesting to see.
