Hi. Starting to look for a job (CT trained) - curious about Miami and the environs. Heard malpractice situation is really bad down there, is that true?

Can any MDs practicing in Florida chime in here, please?

TIA!

I second the summoning of the hive mind for the two scoops on this topic

FYI, there are recent posts in the "anesthesia positions" portion of the forum regarding miami under titles related to tampa and South FL jobs

An occurrence policy will cost you between $30-40k a year in South Florida.

Claims made policy are obviously cheaper but just remember your tail is 2x your last premium so occurrence and claims eventually each other out.

It's very expensive in Florida. I don't even practice in Palm, Broward, or Miami Dade and my occurrence policy was over $25k the first year. It's gotten cheaper because I left the hospital and doing outpatient (no OB liability) and my policy is now done to $13200 for 250/750k occurrence with med pro

But South Florida Miami area is very high.

Becareful some ortho and neuro surgeons won't carry malpractice and most of OBs do not carry malpractice. Guess who's likely to get sued?
