It is hard to know how good a malpractice insurance company is. A core tension is that if a case is brought, the insurance company will often want to settle, whereas the physician would often prefer to go to court. This experience will not necessarily be that common. So many people who are customers of an insurance business will not be able to judge them on what is arguably the most important aspect of the service they provide.
Do you guys typically get extra insurance if your company is already covering you with tail? Heard from a few docs that it is a good idea to get your own as well because if something happens the company purchased insurance will support the hospital and not you. Is this true and is it worth getting extra insurance for this reason?
