Man Walks Into ER With Grenades

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The concept of evacuating Henry Ford ED is frightening to me.

Talk about a shift you wouldn't want to repeat.

Take care,
Jeff

throwing hand grenades scare's the $hit out of me (done w/army), but seeing them in the hands of one of the crazies--well, that's just unthinkable

I showed this article to a colleague who trained there and she echoed Jeff698. "Guy with grenades? Just another day in detroit. Evacuate the ED? How is such a thing even possible?"

When I first saw the title of the post, I thought you were going to tell a joke. (A man walks into a bar . . .). That security guy really earned his pay!

Yeah, I cant see emptying the ED either, they would prob just quarantine the area as best they could. I'm at a different Detroit ED, that prob what they would do at my place. We've had gun fights in the ambulance bay before, luckily for us, the security guys have guns... and are retired Detroit police😀

The whole ED was not evacuated. In fact I just kept on trying to get one of my patients transfered. The only area that was really affected was our walk-in triage and the fast track area. Our main ED wasn't evacuated. We did go on diversion though, which was the first time that has happened in at least 5 years. We weren't really that busy at the time, which was fortunate.

It was pretty crazy but I am confident that we have some of the best security that anyone could ask for. They ALWAYS have your back at just a moments notice.

All the reports that I have heard were that this guy really did want to die and take a bunch of people out with him. I guess that they are going to press federal charges against him and he will be incarcerated in some form for a very long time.

I've heard, this hospital has metal dectector at the door, too many gang bangers attempt to get into the ER to finish business....😡
I suspect this is what first got security's attention...

Our ED has metal detectors at the door. I think it is typical for inner city. I imagine most inner city hospitals have metal detectors in place. Probably even a lot of community hospitals.
