Hi all,

I have an interview coming up for Loma Linda and have been asked to do a Manual Skills Test (carving practice) during interview day. If anyone has gone through the Manual Skills Test already, I'd love to get some input on it to help me prepare. Thanks so much! 🙂

LSU does a chalk carving test at the interview, I'm sure it is similar. Do you know what you will be carving? Dimensions, etc? As long as you practice and practice, you should be fine.

Thanks for the input, THS! I actually looked at information about LSU chalk carving test for reference. If I remember correctly, I was told that we could carve any design with our own dimensions provided that the surfaces are smooth and flat, angles are sharp and defined and measurements are exact. The admissions staff sent a practice packet with a sample design. I'm not sure if we could use the same design but I'll double check with them.

In that case, don't worry about trying to emulate Michelangelo, but I would try to include a perfectly flat surface, a perfectly round surface, and a 90 degree angle in your design. I think these features will show that you have well-rounded skills. Make sure the flat surfaces that join at an angle are not scooped, this is a common problem for those that did not practice enough.
