I was wondering if anybody else received a random letter from Marquette inviting them to pay$750 to be placed on their waitlist? It doesn't make any sense, I never even returned the essay they requested. And they say the $750 is completely refundable if I don't matriculate. What's the catch?

$750 to put you on the WAITING LIST?? LOL

That is just unheard of. What's worse is they say they'll reimburse you if you DON'T matriculate? Wait...isnt it supposed to be the other way around?

Read the fine print. A scam is brewing. lol

People in my class matriculated without the essay and had to finish it when they were in the first semester. I don't think there is a catch.

Hi,

I got accepted to marquette and did not turn in the essay. I don't think it's a requirement. Anyways, if you were considering the school and have the money I would do the deposit. You don't have anything to loose if you don't get in from the waiting list. You'll get your money back if you don't get in. Usually about 20 people get accepted from waiting list. I would call their school and ask for past year stats in terms of how many usually make it from their waiting list and maybe ask what is your rank in the list. Hope this helps. Big poppa I'm going there this tuesday I was wondering if you have any recommendations in terms of housing places or what I should look at.

I would look at the Abbotsford appartements on 13 th st. It is graduate housing for students. The new school will be on 18 th. there are appartments right behind the new school that my friends live in but they are very small. There is a guy whose office is on the cornor of 16th and Wisconsin (Right by the Walgreens). He owns most of the buildings around campus and might be able to help you. If you have more money, you might consider the Catholic Knights building on 11th and Wells. It is very nice, but a little more pricey but I think its well worth it. If you have a car, you might consider living away from campus in a nicer area.

Hope this helps.

I got the WL letter from Marquette today. I did however fill out all of the forms, including the essay. I ain't sending them any $$. IU is still my first choice.

I just recieved the same kind of letter that you guys got. I also didn't wrote any essay or even paid there supplementary application fees. I am quite surprised, as I thought it is a very good school, but if they are sending letters like this, then I guess they are struggling to get students.
