Just wondering how many of my peers are married with or without children. I'm going on my 3rd yr at UB been married 5 yrs and have a gorgeous 4 month old son. It is a unique challenge being at home now studing for NBDE. But I gotta stay focused for 12 more days.

Both my wife and I are dental students and we have a 5 yr old. It's not bad at all. If one of us wantedto specialize it might be a little harder, but we both just want to graduate.

i'm married with no kids. i start at arizona in a few weeks. i'm sure it will be hard not to see my wife as much as i'm used to but i don't expect it to be too bad.

Married with a 1 year old. I see her 1.5 hours a day due to board study. It sucks, but less than 2 weeks left!!!

Entering my 3rd year of dental school, I am married with a 8 month old little girl(just started crawling last week). I find I have to remind myself to find time for us to spend together(I have a general rule that I dont study after 8pm). Its not hard to find time if your just looking to pass, but if you want to do well it can be a strain. All this time spent right now is going to buy me extra time in the future with my family. I look forward to that day.

Married for five years with a 2.5 year old and a 4-month old. I'm shipping the wife and kids off to Utah (they elected to go) tomorrow so that I can have 12 days of peace and quiet to study non-stop for Part I.

hey, i'm still a pre-dental student, hopefully going to get in for the 2005 year, and i'll be married when i start. the way i look at it, is that i dont plan on specializing, so i realy dont care about being at the top of my class. as long as i manage to pass all my classes (b's or possibly c's) and pass my boards exams, i'm happy. if i plan on doing this, how much time do u guys think i would have to spend with my wife? i'm afraid that going to dental school would put a strain on my new marriage (i'm planning on getting married next summer, right before i start dental school). thanks

Married 11 years with 4 kids. I start dental school this fall. For the past three years I have worked full time and gone to school part time to get my prereqs done. There were a few days that I never even saw my kids unless they were asleep in their beds. However, I have made it a rule to not study on sundays and make that a family day and we also have one scheduled night a week for "family night". The TV stays off and we have a great time together. My wife and I also schedule a date once a week. It may be as simple as going to the store together and getting an ice cream cone but at least we are without kids and can talk. There are times when I think "I should be studying right now" but my kids are growing up fast and I want to enjoy them. Getting up early to study, studying over lunch etc. is how I got it done so I could have the evenings with my wife and kids. Maintaining a balance has made it very manageable for us. I don't want to graduate from dental school and have my kids say "who are you?" when I want to spend time with them. I may not end up at the top of my class but I expect to be a great dentist with a great family too.

Just out of curiosity how old are you? Do you think their will be other "older" students in your class. I am not 21 and I wanted to see if I am going to be one of the few "older" students. Thanks. 😳

I am 34 😀 From what I have seen in the ASDA handbook and on these forums there are usually a few 30-somethings that get into each class.
