What do you all know about MLK's program. I know that the historically don't fill in the match, and that their program has less than stellar respect in the EM community. Does anybody know a graduate or resident in this program? Did they really lose their surgery dept. accredidation? Is the hospital close to being shut down by the City?

Got an interview out there, wondering whether or not to go.

Thanks

Unfortunantly, I can't answer most of your questions.

I do have an attending who is a recent graduate of MLK, and he is a stellar physician.

Can't answer about the respect, although they are "known" for the fact that they cannot fill their EM residency, the only program in the west with that problem.

Yes it is true that the surg program lost accreditation.

No, the hospital will not be shut down. Too much of a political hot potato given that 99% of the patients are uninsured. There is already talk about the re-organization of the hospital and promises for future success. We'll see, but I would definitely be wary.

I know an MLK grad. He's the medical director of the ED in the hospital I'm going to be starting work in two weeks. Seems a very solid guy, and clearly an up-and-comer in the organization, which is a very prominent west coast democratic partnership group. (No working for the Man!) 🙂
