Maryland requires one bio prof and one chem prof LOR. I have two chem professors since I am a chemistry major. I haven't sent my $75 application fee to the school yet. I called admissions and they didn't help me out. Is it worth a shot to write an explanation to why I dont have a bio. LOR and send my money?

I can imagine they wouldnt give you a fair shot if you have good scores and good gpa. Writing a letter only calls attention to the fact you dont have it

i have the exact same problem, fenderdude! i have a letter from a chem, letter from physics prof, one from a math teacher about calculus and one about a dentist. i just assumed it would be OK, then i started getting worried when i saw their website that requires a bio letter.

i called maryland to ask about it (but didn't tell them who i was) and they said they do stuff on a case-by-case basis. hopefully they were just lying to me and blowing me off.

i think chemistry majors shouldn't be required to have a bio letter because we are chem majors and more than likely, our chem majors know us best. just my opinion. 🙂 let me know if you find out anything more about it!

I posted about this about a month or so ago and was told that I NEEDED both of the LORs (someone had an experience with this situation last year). Needless to say, I am still searching for a chem. professor....

I have one from each but Im curious you need both if you don't have a committee letter or everyone needs both?

So does that mean I have no shot at Maryland U if I did not send a bio and chem professor? I did send LORs from two sciences profs though...

Really? Yeah, im sending one chem prof and one physics....shoot
