I don't think there is a single school out there that interviews you with the entire admissions committee... If that was the case, I would say that your interview performance is the sole decider of your admissions.
Most of the time, your interviewer evaluates your performance and then meets with the adcom afterwards to discuss about your admissions. At that point I would say that its the adcom as a whole, which makes the decisions and not your interviewer unless said interview was on the adcom, then your performance may be worth more than usual...
Logically since it is your interviewer who has witnessed your performance and not the adcom as a whole, it is really up to how each individual member on the committee takes the news from your interviewer. They may choose to believe him or may not. Who knows.
It is because your interviewer does not make the final decision that I will have to say that it is your whole package that grants you that big packet in the mail.
That should be the gist of how most schools do it if they interview you with someone not on the admissions committee.
Although it could be a different story if they interview you with a member of ADCOM. There are a couple of possibilities on how that works.
- Does each member of the ADCOM get to let in a certain # of people that they interview?
or
- Do these guys still have to remeet with other members of adcoms to decide?
