me too! wow they got it the SAME day!? i've been looking around and saw that last cycle "Feb 1st" was the big day, but then again, it was last year..

No i meant people who previously interviewed found out that day

hmm wonder if i talked to you... i was the girl in the grey suit 😛

Does anyone know how Maryland's admissions process works? For instance, does the applicants credentials (DAT, GPA, ECs etc) earn the interview and then the performance during the interview is the final determining factor of admission? Or is it the summation of everything that decides this? I know this process varies from school to school, but I am not clear on what approach Maryland uses. Just curious. Thanks!

I don't think there is a single school out there that interviews you with the entire admissions committee... If that was the case, I would say that your interview performance is the sole decider of your admissions.

Most of the time, your interviewer evaluates your performance and then meets with the adcom afterwards to discuss about your admissions. At that point I would say that its the adcom as a whole, which makes the decisions and not your interviewer unless said interview was on the adcom, then your performance may be worth more than usual...

Logically since it is your interviewer who has witnessed your performance and not the adcom as a whole, it is really up to how each individual member on the committee takes the news from your interviewer. They may choose to believe him or may not. Who knows.

It is because your interviewer does not make the final decision that I will have to say that it is your whole package that grants you that big packet in the mail.

That should be the gist of how most schools do it if they interview you with someone not on the admissions committee.

Although it could be a different story if they interview you with a member of ADCOM. There are a couple of possibilities on how that works.

- Does each member of the ADCOM get to let in a certain # of people that they interview?

or

- Do these guys still have to remeet with other members of adcoms to decide?

Thank you for your reply. You raise several good points. Well I guess there are too many factors involved in this process to provide a standard answer. I am curious to know the answers to your questions as well. Perhaps a current dental student that has been involved in the umb admissions process could provide us some insight?

I dont think that info will ever be revealed to us

I think its the one bolded above. The interviewer you get is probably the one that found your application interesting. So each ADCOM picks their interviewees and after they interview you, they decide which one to let in. Or the interviewer meets up the other members of the adcoms and advocates for the ones he thinks deserves admission. Essentially in both methods, your interviewer has the most influence on your fate. This is of course different for schools like USC or Michigan. Pure speculation though.

I think you are right. I guess it's safe to say that the interviwer is highly influential in advocating for an applicant assuming the applicant performed well during the interview and in credentials. The Maryland interview is an open-book interview, so they have access to your entire file. It would make sense to me if their influence is substantial. This is why I raised the question earlier and hijacked this thread ( sorry about that).

Has anyone heard anything yet???

i would think the majority of people who get accepted are also on facebook thus would join the class of 2016 for their school they plan on going to. So how many members are in each 2016 class would probably be a good indication. Just my guess though

The group has 111 members at the moment.

yea id say its just about filled up

The group has more than 60% members from upperclass. I would say about 60% class filled.

Yea alot of the members are upperclassman....

Does anyone know how much of the in-state class spots are still open or is that filled already?

how do you know they are upperclassmen? I hope you are right since the group has 118 members now but only people in the 2016 class should be in the group...right?

I think the group title was just changed i know alot are upperclassmen bc i personally know them lol

ooo ok good haha well I still have hope then
