If I don't get into dental school this application cycle, I will need to make my application stronger for the next one. I would like to wait some time to see if it looks like I will be accepted into a program, but when would I need to start applying to a masters program, such as public health? Is it a year long application process like dental school? Do I need to take the GREs?

Thanks for the help!

Yah-E gave some great advice on this topic. I don't know your individual statistics, but if your science GPA is lacking, try a masters degree in the biomedical sciences (I'm applying to Midwestern and the spring term for UMDNJ at Stratford). I think a degree in Public Health is a great ancillary degree for any health profession. But for the sake of being admitted into dental school, I think that proving continued success in biomedical courses is a greater positive. I'm sure there are other experiences out there on this - but those are my $.02.

My friend who is a medical school graduate completed a masters in public health before getting accepted. Would it not apply the same way to dental school?

My GPA is lacking @ 3.1/3.2. It was at an Ivy, but I dont know if that helps.

My dat/pat was 19/19.

I was a D-1 athlete, good dental expereince/community service, and my brother and father are dentists.

I applied to 16 schools, but I am worried that I might need to do a masters program to make my academics look better.

Program that sound like good options are:
Public Health
Biomedical sciences
Nutrition??
any others?

I'm at a year long biology masters program. You need to take the GREs, but its not very difficuly. I prepared for 2 hours and ended up with a 1250 (I needed a 1000).

As for when you need to apply, look at schools where you want to apply. The deadline to the school I applied to (and was accepted in) was July 1st.
