Am I trying to do too much? Any suggestions?

So I should have a 2.8 Science GPA after this quarter (I only had one science class so it hardly went up). Looking at a 3.0 Science GPA after this year if I buckle down.

Spring Quarter:
Physics 1, Calculus 3, Biochemistry, and an easy Science/finish Spanish sequence.

Sophomore year summer:
First two quarters of Organic Chemistry.
Minimum research/volunteering until done, then more during the last 8 weeks of the summer.
Get my CNA certification during the last 8 weeks.

Junior year, I will be finishing the last two Physics and the last Orgo. I will also take upper level Biology/Chemistry along with easier ones. Plan on taking another intro to Stats as one of the easier classes (I got a C+). MAYBE start MCAT prep if my grades are high enough and I want to try to avoid a gap year.

Junior year summer:
POSSIBLY re-taking General Chemistry for 10 weeks, research, volunteering, and working as a CNA/patient care tech. I will begin studying for MCAT.

Senior year, I will just be finishing up my requirements (not science) and some upper level Biology classes, continuing studying for MCAT, and then applying!

During the school years I plan to continue EC’s, but really just focusing on my grades. Volunteering in a clinic/hospital once a week (2 days) and possible research during the week. Non-clinical volunteering like once a month. Working as a "on-call" CNA/Patient Care Tech where basically if they need someone, they can call me and ask if I would like to come in.

Concerns: Not finishing Spanish now instead of next year seems stupid, but it would be a nice easy class with Orgo, and I could have room for another Science now.

Just taking 2 Orgo quarters instead of all 3 will save me about 3k, but waiting so long seems stupid (all though I will try to study for MCAT , so I might be fine and even ahead)?

Sorry that it is so long, so much on my mind. I plan on shutting myself off from the internet after spring break to focus.

It sounds like you have a good plan but I didn't read all of it. Just know that what you plan and what happens are almost always different. Make sure to include a few buffer zones. Good luck!

It looks pretty overwhelming to be honest, just take things step by step and don't lose focus of your goal, otherwise, it looks like a good plan. For your MCAT and application--do you intend to take the MCAT senior year? Then you'll have to take a gap year as you'll be applying for school in the summer after your senior year and interview during your gap year.

I'm debating whether or not to take a gap year. If I start studying and see no hope in a +30 or do not have a solidish GPA, I'll take a gap year. 😀

I think a gap year will be nice for your gpa, give you extra time to study for mcat (if needed), and give you more time to boost the EC's. Overall, if used wisely, I think it could really improve your app. Strongly consider it when the time comes, there's no point in rushing in only to reapply the following cycle. Give yourself the best chance from the start.

In terms of your plan... I think it's feasible, but cut back on things if you start to feel too overwhelmed. Improving your gpa should be your priority right now. Good luck.

Thank you! I'm definitely learning towards gap year for now.

Quick question, should I not finish Spanish next quarter (and wait a year) so I can take an easier Science class (improve my Science GPA)?

Personal preference. You could take an 'easier' science class now, but you'll have to take Orgo and Spanish eventually.

You have a 2.8 GPA?

I'd stop planning so far ahead and work to raise GPA. I am concerned that if you have a 2.8, how well you will do with Ochem and such.

It looks ok on paper, but everyone's tolerance is different. Would not want you to become burnt out

Freshman year was not the best. 🙁

How are you doing right now?
Better (grades come out soon), still not too confident in only getting As, but hopefully next quarter I can see how much I can handle/if I can get As haha.
