Hey, I am currently finishing my first year at Elms Post Bac program and have been doing very well. However I am worried that even if I continue to get all A's, I still won't be a competitive med school applicant. I have looked into SMP's and other masters programs and I am wondering what are people's thoughts on taking a masters program after a post-bac program?

ug GPA before PB:2.7
PB current GPA: 4.0
After using AMCAS GPA calculator, if I continue with current trend I will end the program with a:
uGPA: 3.237
sGPA: 3.67

Have you taken the MCAT yet?

If you have taken the MCAT before, have you applied to med school before?

What do your ECs look like?

I have not taken the MCAT yet. As far as Extra Curriculars, I worked 3 years full time in a non-profit psychiatric facility as a counselor gaining over 6000 clinical hours. I do not have much in the way of volunteer hours, but I do plan volunteering at a hospital all next year and I am in the process of forming a tutoring/mentoring program with a local high school for under privileged youth in the local area to help better prepare people for college.

You don't need a MS with a record like that. Just ace the MCAT.

As @Goro said, and I agree with, ace the MCAT and invest time with volunteering and shadowing. You have certainly demonstrated that you've turned things around and are ready for the next level. Time to work on other areas of your app to make you more competitive, in addition to performing well on the MCAT.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks to the both of you. I will try to continue getting all A's in the program and will hopefully do well on the MCAT as well. I will also try to get more volunteering. Thank you to the both you!
