I'm really interested in working with the geriatric population as a practicing physician. But my GPA was on the lower side in undergrad so I was thinking of pursuing a master's. Would med schools look down on this type of degree?

It's not so much that your degree would be looked down upon. Rather, MD schools will not consider your gpa from the Master's as a remediation for the undergraduate gpa.
DO schools may see things differently.

Don't waste your time doing a masters in gerontology because it's not going to prepare you for the rigor of medical school nor will it impress ADCOMs. Instead do a biomedical masters program that is linked to a medical school (these masters programs can serve as a back door to the medical school they're hosted at).
