I am planning to apply for the 2009 cycle, my cGPA is a 3.3 (bombed organo the first time I took it) with a 3.7 over the last three years of undergrad and post bachelor course work. I havent taken the DAT yet, Im planning too takethe Cdn DAT and the american dat in febuary, I am wondering if persuing a masters degree in Oral Bio or medical micro is worth it? I have dental expericance and took an intro to dent course at my school, Ill have more dental school experiance by the time I apply, I want to get into an upper teir dental school, will having a masters help my chances when I apply?

A 3.7 the following 3 yrs is pretty impressive. What if you just retook the courses that you did poorly in? I know that they don't replace the grades, but adcoms will see that. I wonder if that is a better choice for you since you do not have that many courses that you did poorly in.

A masters degree can do nothing but improve your application. If you do well in a science Masters that will improve your GPA more and show that you have a true committment to get into dental schoool no matter what it takes. I would recommend a 1 year Masters if you can do it because many schools do not like to take students out of their Masters program in the middle. A least that has been my experience. Good Luck.

I think master degree will help you, because it will make ur background looks better!

yeah, the first time I took Ochem I dident do well at all, D's both semesters, I also got two C's in Biochem and cell Bio, otherwise, Ive taken a gammit of other science courses (harder ones and same level) that has risen my average, I retook Ochem and did a B/A9(lab) and a B+/A-(lab) the second time I took it, Im considering the masters because my overall trends have been very positive but I dont think that I have a really good shot since my eariler grades kill my overall GPA 2.77 over two years to a 3.7 over the last three = a 3.3, I think I will have a better shot if I do a masters is Med. Microbio, or Oral Bio, Im not sure which one yet. Anythoughts?
