Hi Guys!

I hope I am posting in the right area, but I am 27 years old and am going to apply to Medical school this summer. I take my MCAT next week (AHHH!) I am wondering if it would be pointless to also apply to a Masters Program? I want a MPH/MD degree. I don't know if this is would be looked down upon by medical schools? I have been figuring out my life and now that I know I want to go into medicine, I don't want to waste any time. If I don't get into medical school next year, at least I will have started on my MPH riiight?

Any advice would be appreciated 🙂

well, suppose you don't go into Medicine. What will having the MPH do for you, career-wise.

Medical schools also don't know what/where else you're applying to.

I assume you have all the pre-reqs and required ECs?????

Most MPH programs require the GRE. I guess you have that?
your last sentence kinda says... "md or mph, at least i'll be doing something next year"'. Assure yourself that you're doing an MPH out of passion and not just to kill a lag year. MPHs do not make an applicant more appealing to med schools (unless you had some admirable work experience in the field).

Can you clarify what you mean by "some admirable work experience in the field"?

Basically, you used the degree to the benefit of a community or research, etc. For example, you got an MBA and you used it to start up a nonprofit that helps the domestically abused... or something like that. Basically, just don't get a degree with the hopes that it alone will impress adcoms. On the undergrad level, it's like getting an emt license without actually working/volunteering as one.
