Today is match day, no? How did things go? From friends in academia I heard that this year's match was a bit tighter across the board, fewer unfilled spots. Must have made the scramble a living hell. Do they still use fax machines for the scramble?

I have matched at UT Southwestern and am very pleased. 😀

I matched at one of my top choices....very happy about it. I do get the sense that competition is tougher this year, as a lot of my interviewers commented that the quality of applicants have increase a lot in recent years.

as a lot of my interviewers commented that the quality of applicants have increase a lot in recent years.

I think they say that every year. Although to be fair, they are probably right. The quality of med school applicants has gone up too I think.

Congratulations to everyone who matched! Enjoy the next few months off, don't think too much about pathology, but when you start get going right away and start working hard. Don't waste your residency time.

I got my number 1. I'll be going to UVA. I'm very excited. Any other UVA people out there?

Only 14 unfilled spots, all of which were scrambled into within a day.

For Pathology as a whole:
Number of programs = 148
Number of positions = 503
Number of programs that did not fill = 14
Number of US senior applicants – 363
Number of total applicants = 857
Number of US seniors matched in pathology = 327
% US seniors of total positions = 65%

Number of total pathology positions over last few years:
2010 = 503
2009 = 522
2008 = 508
2007 = 513
2006 = 525

Number of US applicants over the last few years:
2010 = 327
2009 = 321
2008= 298
2007 = 296
2006 = 315

% of spots filled by US applicants over the last few years:

2010 = 65
2009 = 61.5
2008= 58.7
2007 = 57.7
2006 = 60

Ok, ok. Get to the good stuff.

What programs didn't fill? Who has the illegal, unofficial unfilled program list?

Congratulations to everyone on match day! To me, match day was when med school finally started to feel like it was ending. It's odd to be out of an academic center now, match day seems less significant. Where I work there are some residents but basically just general surg, OB, IM, and FP.

Congratulations to everyone that matched.

too bad there won't be a job for all of you in 4-5 years

Yay! I matched at my absolute favorite program.

Mr. Euchromatin is also happy for me, particularly since we don't need to move and he can keep his current job.

Congrats to everyone else that matched!

:luck:Matched into my #1 choice 😀
Feel very lucky since the competition was so stiff this year. Still on cloud 9!

Congrats to all that matched!

Congratulations to everyone!

I was fortunate enough to match at my #1 program and am beyond excited!!

Good luck with the new jobs🙂
