Match list as a reason for applying

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I dont think so. It seems like a lot of schools (private and public) want you to at least show an interest in staying in the area after graduation. Just talk about how the population of X area is similar to the demographics of your hometown which sparked your initial interest in medicine. And match lists are like reading tea leaves. Maybe non of the students wanted to apply to a certain area. So they certainly could have had matches if students had interest.

The secondary is short and I think you will be able to find better use of the space that they provide. Do research on the school, find a unique program or some sort of community outreach that they do, and talk about how that will help further explore and build on your interests in xyz... that sounds a lot better than saying this school will help me match back to my home state

No, don't do this.

Match List trends are fickle, and while connections between schools and residency programs sometimes do exist they are inherently specialty specific - eg, my StateU med school on the Great Plains sent a string of students to a prestigious IM residency on the East Coast that one would not have typically expected, but it didn't help people get into surgery or anesthesia or pediatrics or any other program at that institution otherwise.

Since you posted that it's Creighton, you need to know a little bit about the make up of Creighton's student body...To put it bluntly, there are only two types of students there - Nebraskans who went to Creighton for undergrad and drank the blue kool aid that it's an outstanding medical school that doesn't get it's due (except of course that UNebraska just down the street is better by all objective standards), and OOS students who couldn't get into their home state programs and can't wait to get out of Omaha as fast as they can. The match trends back to your home state are reflective of that second group of students, and so the match list reflects where the students are from far more than any other relevant data point about connections or specific quality.

If it helps, this is the data and the exact mission statement:

In Creighton’s Jesuit, Catholic tradition, the mission of the School of Medicine is to improve the human condition with a diverse body of students, faculty and staff who provide excellence in educating students, physicians and the public, advancing knowledge and providing comprehensive patient care.

United by our Jesuit, Catholic identity, we transform learners into exceptional physicians who are leaders in advancing medicine, health and well-being.

I just did the count: 13/148 matched into Nebraska recently, 23/164 in the previous year. More matched into my home state.

Man they are teeing you UP for the answer to this question. You want to go there because you want to "improve the human condition with a diverse body of students, faculty and staff who provide excellence in educating students, physicians and the public, advancing knowledge and providing comprehensive patient care" and become one of a group of "exceptional physicians who are leaders in advancing medicine, health and well-being." Match lists-with perhaps the exception of California and New York-are WAY more a result of student choice than of program choice. Remember, about 50% of people get their first choice spot and 75% get one of their top three. You say match list you ignore their mission.

"areyoumydaddy"is a hilarious user name, well done.

But no, don't write that you're applying to a school because of their match list.
