Ok, I'm willing to share to help others out. My feeling is PM&R is getting a bit more competitive but is still available to the majority of people who are passionate about this field. Good luck to future applicants!!

Board Scores: Step 1: 256 Step 2: pending
Honors/Passes: a few honors, many high passes, many passes (I feel I attend a very competitive school so my grades are subpar probably to other applicants)
Extracurriculars: various social activities, community service, volunteering
Research: cardiology paper published, no relevant PM&R articles published
Interviewed: 13 places
Ranked: Spaulding #1, RIC #2, UCLA #3, UW #4, baylor, columbia/cornell, mayo, upenn, emory
Matched: Spaulding

4 responses for the 2006 match? That's not a very balanced view. Can others post their scores as well? Inquiring minds want to know how this field is changing, as i have younger friends ask me about PM&R.

Honors: All but 3 classes
Extra: lots of just community stuff, sports related events, etc.
Research: 5 papers, 2 related to MSK, couple of other random stuff
Interviews: 4, UW, Denver, Mayo, Utah
Ranked: all 4
Matched: Utah #1

I concur that PMR is getting more competitive but is still very open. I know the Utah program took 3 this year in match, 1 out of match and rumor is they matched their #1, #2, and #3. I do not know about other programs, but this might be a trend??

Extracurriculars: Tons of student government and work with admissions dept, honors society, athletic training background, violinist, lots of outdoors interests
Research/Teaching: Osteopathic pre-doctoral teaching fellowship, 2 yrs molecular bio benchwork, no papers.
Recs (Might be a useful category): 1 PM&R chair, 1 PM&R PD, 1 sports/pain doc, 1 FP
Interviewed: TIRR, Kessler, JHU, UPenn, Spaulding, JFK, Columbia-Cornell, UC-Davis, RIC
Ranked: All of above for Advanced (PGY-2) spots only except UPenn (matched into rotating internship and UPenn only has categorical spots)
Matched: UC-Davis Medical Center (PGY2-4)

don't be discouraged by the above "superstars" we are honored that they are in our field and that they are eager to share with us their impressive board scores . still many pd's look at the whole package.

In 2006 match, the 82 spots for PM&R were 92.7 % filled. Which was below psychiatry 94.8%, peds 96.5% IM, 97.9%, general surgery 99.9%, and ob/gyn 97.9% leaving
opportunity for those who didn't get the best board scores to shine during residency and still fulfill the need for rehabilitation specialists.

My board scores were at the national average on step 1 and below average on step 2. Still, i managed to shine during 4th year clerkships earning honors in all 3 PM&R elective at top programs. HP's in some other clinical rotations, neurology, ICU/CCU, H in psychiatry, i had completed a research project, but not in PM&R.

I matched my #2.
